Special Session of the Missouri Legislature Focuses on Economic Development
Governor Nixon has called the Legislature into special session, beginning September 6. Both the Democratic governor and the leadership of both houses with large Republican majorities are focused on job creation. House members have been told to expect to receive a Senate version by September 9, and the Senate leadership expects to have the bill on the governor’s desk before the veto session begins on September 14. A controversial portion of the bill includes a $360 million economic incentive for a China trade hub at Lambert Field in St. Louis. The call for the special session also includes local control of the St. Louis Police Department, moving the date of the presidential primary, and tax amnesty.
